Tehachapi Police arrest auto theft suspect after he attempted to flee

TEHACHAPI, Calif. — The Tehachapi Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff's Office teamed up to arrest an auto theft suspect after he attempted to flee.

According to TPD, 23-year-old Christopher Riley was seen in the 18000 Block of Cherry Lane in Tehachapi. As officers attempted to contact Riley, he fled on foot into a residence and out the back door. He was believed to have jumped the rear fence and fled into the neighborhood.

Officers immediately established a perimeter of the area with assistance from Kern County Sheriff's Deputies and began a yard to yard search. A neighbor from Beech Street alerted officers to Riley who was hiding under a camper in the rear yard.

Riley was located and taken into custody without incident. He was transported and booked into the Kern County Central Receiving Facility where he is being held on auto theft charges and a variety of other charges with a bail of $105,000. Officers are requesting Riley be held without bail.
