BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — The California Highway Patrol has confirmed new details in the deadly Highway 99 crash from early Sunday morning.
CHP confirmed the BMW involved in the crash was the vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes at the time of the collision. Initial reports indicated the Honda Accord was at fault.
All other aspects of the crash remain under investigation, including potential charges.

The Kern County Coroner's Office confirmed 41-year-old Vanessa Sue Wetmore, 20-year-old Kylie Wetmore, and 16-year-old Kloie Wetmore died in the crash. As of right now it is unknown about the conditions of the other people involved.
The crash happened just after midnight Sunday, Aug. 16, on southbound Highway 99, north of Seventh Standard Road.
CHP says three vehicles were involved: a 2022 Honda Accord driven by an unidentified female, a 2019 BMW 530i driven by a 44-year-old male, and a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado driven by a 41-year-old female.
The impact caused the Honda to burst into flames, killing the three people inside. The driver of the BMW sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. The two people in the Chevrolet Colorado sustained minor injuries.
Investigators say it is still unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
