Kohl's and the Active 20-30 Club of Bakersfield is holding the 2017 annual Children's Shopping Spree event Saturday.

The shopping spree will help more than 200 kids get ready for back to school with more than $100 in new clothes and a new backpack.

"The new clothes help the kids feel good about themselves. It allows them to have self-respect, which then turns into confidence and then to success in life." said Greg May, a past president for Active 20-30.

The annual event known as "ChildSpree" is a partnership between the Active 20-30 Club of Bakersfield, Bakersfield West Rotary, Bakersfield North Rotary, CASA, Community Connection for Child Care, Youth Connection, The Boys and Girls Club of Kern County and Kohl's.

Hosted at both Kohl's locations, the annual Children's Shopping Spree provides more than 250 children each with a $100 gift certificate to spend on the latest back to school fashions and a new backpack as well as breakfast after the event.
