Brayden Eidenshink, a Bakersfield boy who received a new heart after being on a heart transplant list for close to four and a half years, has been placed on a machine that is pumping his blood for him.

In an update on Brayden's Facebook page, Brayden's family says his heart needed more rest and had to be placed on "ECMO (life support)" at 2 a.m. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a treatment that pumps and oxygenates a patient's blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest, according to the University of California San Francisco. 

The family says the ECMO machine is temporary, and that they will not give up. In a previous update, Brayden's family said his kidneys took "a bit hit," and his lungs partially collapsed. At that time, his family said Brayden was very sick right now, but doctors were hoping that dialysis would help him.
