In an emergency meeting held Wednesday night, Bakersfield City School District board members unanimously vote to delay the start of school to August 24th. BCSD officials say they were informed Tuesday that a majority of their 30,000 students would not have access to Internet connectivity. This is due to a delay in the delivery for hotspots from Verizon Wireless. Officials say all hotspots were supposed to be delivered this week, in increments of 5,000 per day. With this delay, hotspots won’t be distributed until next Monday. The districts virtual orientation has also been pushed back. The new date is Friday the 21st.

BCSD delays start of school due to failure to distribute the needed number of hotsposts for children to have internet.
