BPD makes arrest in connection to deadly shooting in South Bakersfield

(UPDATE 1/20): The Bakersfield Police Department arrested Lucifer Darnell Pierce, 39, Wednesday in connection to the deadly shooting of 30-year-old Mubarek Saleh Alnajar.

BPD said Pierce resisted arrest and minor force was used to take him into custody.

Pierce was found in possession of a loaded firearm.

According to BPD, Pierce was booked into the Kern County Jail for charges associated with the homicide and parole violation.


The Bakersfield Police Department confirmed Thursday morning that a person found dead in South Bakersfield suffered from "at least one gunshot wound."

Bakersfield police were dispatched to the area of Panama Lane and South H Street just before 10 p.m. Wednesday night. At the time, police said the victim was found with "trauma."

They say this is an active homicide investigation but did not provide any information on any potential suspects.
