Suspicious object found on Chester Ave.

Bakersfield Police officials say a suspicious object was found on Chester Ave. at around 8:15 AM Thursday.

BPD officials said they got a call from someone who said they saw an individual drop an object in front of Catholic Charities located in the 800 block of Chester Ave.

Police later discovered that it was a small white pipe looking similar to a PVP pipe.

A bomb squad was later called out.

As a precaution, BPD blocked off three blocks of Chester Avenue in the area around 8th street and people in the area are were evacuated.          

Bomb squad brought out a water cannon, a device used to disrupt an object and cut the object in pieces.

Official took the remaining pieces to Downtown station to analyze it.

At this time, officials will not say this is an explosive device. 

BPD officers will be visiting nearby businesses to see if they can get a shot of a person who dropped the object in the area.

The streets have since been reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
