Burglary caught on surveillance camera

Posted

A Northwest Bakersfield home burglarized not once, not twice, but three times in a single night.

The homeowner, Greg Marchand, tells 23ABC that he and his wife were inside sleeping while their garage was being ransacked.

The house is surrounded by surveillance cameras but that did not stop the thief.

The surveillance footage shows a man in the garage early Sunday morning.

While the homeowner, a former Sheriff's deputy, has a high-tech security system, Sunday night was one of the few times it wasn't set.

The burglar took several thousand dollars in power tools and money.

All of the tools have the letters “MT” engraved on them.

Marchand says while he felt violated that someone was in his home, he wasn't upset but rather disappointed.

While he wants the thief caught he says he'd rather help him than see him in jail.

That's why he's offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the man’s arrest.

He's hoping to work with prosecutors to give the man a chance to turn his life around or go to jail.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Kern County Sheriff's office at 661-861-3110.
