BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Centennial High School student Ian Rowatt was awarded the National Hispanic Scholar Award.

Recipients of this award must be of Hispanic heritage, have a minimum of 3.0 GPA for high school students, and plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, four-year university.

Ian told 23ABC his mother is from Spain and he was inspired by her to work hard and take pride in his heritage.

Ian has been accepted into the University of Alabama.
