BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The CHiPs for Kids toy drive is helping families all across the county put gifts in the hands of children of all ages.
Last year Victoria Rivera and her family received a little help around the holidays from the event.
"Well it was a better Christmas because they were able to receive something that was a blessing really because it could have been different," said Rivera.
The drive is created based off of donations from people in the community. Then, children ages zero to 16 are chosen from all around Kern County to receive a gift from chips for kids. When Rivera's family was chosen last year she said she was relieved because she had fallen on hard times.
"It's like a weight is lifted off your shoulders and when you're in need you're in need you know," said Rivera.
River says her family appreciates all the donations and hopes the community can continue coming together.
Donations are being accepted until December 16th. You can drop off your new unwrapped gift at the CHP office on Compagnoni Street., Motor City (in the auto mall), both Carneceria La Carreta locations, all local Walgreens stores, Furniture City at Wible and Ming (the old Target), and right here at KERO 23ABC at 321 21st Street.
