BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — CHP has determined that speed was a factor in a 5-car crash on I-5 Wednesday that left two people with major injuries.

The crash happened around 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26 on southbound I-5 south of Main Drain Road.

Six people and 5 cars were involved in the crash. A 75-year-old female from Cambria and a 81-year-old female from Berkeley sustained major injuries in the crash. A 74-year-old man sustained moderate injuries in the crash. A 45-year-old man and 49-year-old woman both sustained minor injuries. The sixth person, a 53-year-old man, was not injured.

CHP says speed appears to be a factor in the crash, however the crash is still under investigation. CHP says drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
