City Council accepted a bid from Bakersfield Harley-Davidson, for four new motorcycles to be added to the Bakersfield Police Department motorcycle fleet this week.

According to Bakersfield Police Department public information officer Brian Holcombe, there are currently no motorcycle cops on duty. It all started back in May of 2017 when the City of Bakersfield began downsizing the Bakersfield Police department's motorcycle unit because of safety concerns and workplace injuries.

The City Council will now appropriate $28,777 in Equipment Fund balance to the Public Works Department’s Operating Budget to fund the purchase costs for one of the four motorcycles.
