BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The manner of a Oildale man's firework-related death has been ruled as an accident by the Kern County coroner.

According to officials, 45-year-old David Michael Adams was lighting fireworks in the 400 block of Ray Street when there was an explosion. The coroner says he suffered from a "penetrating aerial mortar wound" and died at the scene.

Court documents obtained by 23ABC, says witnesses described Adams' death as a suicide. Contrary to those witness reports stated in the documents, family and friends of Adams described it as an accident.
