County officials report 20 flu-related deaths, including two juveniles

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Public Health Department is reporting 20 flu-related deaths since July 1, 2019. Of those deaths, public health said two were under the age of 18.

Public health said it tracks flu-related deaths from July 1 to June 30. According to the California Department of Public Health, flu season runs from Oct. to April.

Kern County Public Health reported the first flu death back in December.

18 of these flu-related deaths took place during that peak flu season.

Kern public health officials said currently, there is minimal flu activity in California.
