CSUB student killed after being hit by truck near Bakersfield College

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A CSU Bakersfield student was killed after he was hit by a truck near Bakersfield College.

According to BPD, around 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 18-year-old Jason Quinn Kelly was struck by a truck in the 3200 block of Haley Street near Bakersfield College in Northeast Bakersfield. BPD says Kelly died at the scene from his injuries.

CSU Bakersfied President Lynette Zelezny released a statement regarding Kelly's passing "[extending] our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Jason’s family and friends during this difficult time."

Zelezny says plans are being made for a memorial service on campus. The CSU Bakersfield flag will be lowered to half-staff on the day of the service. Zelezny also says the services of their counseling center are available to assist students, faculty, and staff.
