The Kern County District Attorney's Office said a Bakersfield Police detective was justified in using lethal force against a suspect at an Amtrak station in February.
In a press release issued Tuesday, the DA's Office said Detective John Billdt "did everything he could to protect the civilians and himself" as suspect Jamie Long refused to comply with demands.
In video released by both eyewitnesses and Bakersfield Police, Long can be seen approaching Billdt with a weapon and refusing to stop, while Billdt was backing up.
The DA's Office said Tuesday that "upon review of the witness statements, the video, and the law, it is apparent that Detective Billdt acted in self-defense" and declared the shooting "legally justified".
