DELANO, Calif. (KERO) — The Delano Police Department is continuing its efforts to give back to the community. Recently the department donated $2,000 to Valley Children's Hospital in honor of a local cancer patient.

Six-year-old Brian Aguilar was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. DPD first shared his story in November when the department decided to donate their monthly hair-maintenance expenses to Valley Children’s Hospital.

"When we met him everyone was in awe of him and his fighting spirit, so as a department we decided that there was more that we could do," said Cpl. Jose Madrigal.

The $2,000 check was originally meant to go towards Aguilar himself, but his mother said she would rather see the funds go towards the hospital itself to help more families in-need.

Aguilar is undergoing a bone marrow transplant on Thursday.
