BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — It is finally Friday and Mother's Day Weekend, Kern County! Check out these local events both you and your mom can enjoy this weekend.
Independence High School Marching Band and Color Guard Spring Festival
Kick off your weekend by enjoying some amazing performances by the Independence High School Marching Band and Color Guard. These Falcons will be hosting their 10th Annual Spring Festival to showcase their spring program. Dinner is available for purchase. The show starts at 6 p.m. at Independence High School.
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus at 1933
After getting your fill of high school marching band, head over to 1933 to relive your own high school days with Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. The band is bringing their famous song, 'Face Down', and more to 1933 Bar and Grill. Doors open at 5 p.m., and tickets are $20.
Scotsman Market and Plant Sale
Start your Saturday morning off early with this unique sale. Students at Highland High School are hosting the Scotsman Market and Plant Sale. Every item in the sale, from plants to furniture, has been cultivated or built by students. The sale starts at 7 a.m. on Saturday. All proceeds go to the Highland High School FFA program and students.
Haggard Boxcar Music Festival
After finding something at the sale, head on down to the Kern County Museum for the Haggard Boxcar Music Festival. Enjoy some Bakersfield sound as well as a special tour of the Haggard Family box car. Noel and Ben Haggard will be headlining the show. Local artists Truxtun Mile, the Nightlife Band, and more will also be performing. The festival is from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $25. Be sure to bring a lawn chair!
1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival
Looking for a romantic Saturday night, take your significant other to Lake Ming for the 1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival. Enjoy local music, food, and entertainment before the 1000 lights are launched at sunset. Tickets are $28 for events. The festival starts at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Bakersfield Mother's Day Run
Sunday is Mother's Day! Enjoy some quality time with your mom by running (or walking) the Inaugural Mother's Day Run. You can choose between a 5k run or 2k walk. Finishing mom's will receive a special necklace. All finishers will receive delicious strawberry shortcake. It costs $40 to register. The race starts at 8 a.m. Sunday at The Park at Riverwalk.
GG The Warrior Festival
Sunday afternoon, take your mom to the Royal Palace to help in the fight against leukemia. GG the Warrior Festival is bringing together 10 bands, food, and drinks for this event that aims to battle leukemia. The festival opens at noon on Sunday at The Royal Palace.
