Fire damages Sonic restaurant in Southwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A Sonic restaurant in southwest Bakersfield was damaged by a fire on Sunday morning, fire officials said.

Fire crews responded to a call for a structure fire at 7:53 a.m. at the Sonic Drive-In located at 3220 Taft Highway. The Kern County Fire Department said the fire caused significant damage to the inside of the restaurant.

KCFD said it is likely the restaurant will be closed for a period of time due to the significance of the damage.

Building inspectors were observing the restaurant as of about 9:30 a.m.

Officials said the fire was started in the area of a fryer. No injuries were reported.
