BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — As millions around the globe brought in 2020, five babies in Kern County made their way into the world at midnight and just a few minutes after.
Alina Takhar, made her entrance at exactly midnight, making her the first baby in Kern County, into the new decade.
"I pushed three times and then she was out, I didn't expect her to be a New Years baby," said Jasmin Takhar, mother to Alina.
Takhar was not scheduled to arrive until January 3, she is Jasmin and her husband Gurjeet Takhar's firstborn.
"She is already making records without realizing it," said Takhar.
According to Kern Medical officials, Alina is the first baby to do this in the past several years.
"I feel like her being born on New Year's Day and during the new decade means a new chapter, beginning for us," Takhar said. "I am very excited, she means the world to me."
Takhar says she feels great after giving birth to her seven pounds and four ounces bundle of joy.
Just a few miles away at Memorial Hospital, Diego Florino, was born to the Florino family.
"He weighs seven pounds and was born at 12:02 a.m. and I'm really happy," said Alejandra Florino, mother of Diego Florino.
The now mother of two, says she has only been in Bakersfield for six months and is grateful to have a healthy new addition.
"We didn't know what time it was gonna be and then they told me it was at that time, and I was like wow," Florino said.
