Following fatal shooting, Delano Police Department announces new gun violence operation

DELANO, Calif. — Following another fatal shooting in Delano, the police department announced that they were launching a new operation focused on combating gun violence in the city.

On Wednesday, 45-year-old David Michael Ruiz died from multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting on Vassar and 7th streets in Delano. According to the Delano Police Department, there have been multiple shootings in the city with four resulting in death. In addition, there have been eight murders in the city in 2019.

As a result, the Delano Police Department announced it was immediately launching a Gun Violence Response operation that would target "locations and persons believed to be involved in violent crime."

The Delano police did not give a timetable for the operation.
