BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Traditional sports rivalries are a thing of the past, for now. The Astros And Dodgers rivalry is not being fought at Dodger Stadium or at Minute Maid Park. For now, we're trading in baseball diamonds for marquees.
Three weeks ago, the Fox Theater's marquee displayed a message reading "Never forget, Houston Asterisks, Let's go Dodgers!"
The message went viral and got the attention of Warehouse Live, a venue in Downtown Houston. They responded by posting on their marquee "Kiss Our Asterisk, Los Angeles, Dodging Championships Since 1988."
The Fox Theater responded Saturday, with a message reading "Keep your shirts on Houston, first grade math says 5 is greater than *1."
The Dodgers have won 6 World Series, but only 5 of them were won in LA. but The friendly jabs have been making the rounds on social media. Fox Theater's Theater Manager Matthew Spindler says he and the owner of Warehouse Live and exchanged texts since the friendly jabs began.
The Fox Theater, and venues across the world have fallen on hard times amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as most performances have been canceled or postponed. The Fox Theater's 'Marquee inspired' program is allowing people to write a personalized message on the venue's marquee for $200.
If you want to post a message on the marquee, email your message to info@thebakersfieldfox.com with the subject line "MARQUEE INSPIRED."
