Gustavo De La Cruz was found guilty of second-degree murder as well as gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving on a suspended or revoked license for DUI Tuesday.
The charges stem from a 2013 car crash that resulted in the death of Taylor Embree.
At around 4:15 AM on October 17, 2013, an accident occurred between De La Cruz and Embree on Comanche Road near Breckenridge. De La Cruz was driving northbound and Embree southbound. Police reports say that De La Cruz was driving impaired and swerved into Embree's lane.
The head-on collision caused Embree's vehicle to split in half and Embree died at the scene.
De La Cruz suffered a broken leg and was arrested for DUI at the hospital.
De La Cruz had two previous DUI convictions prior to the crash and Kern County Deputy District Attorney Jim Simson says that was part of the case against De La Cruz.
