BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — UPDATE: Two men are in custody after the Bakersfield Police SWAT team surrounded a home Friday night in Southeast Bakersfield where a man had barricaded himself in with a gun.

According to BPD, 27-year-old Hector Hinojosa and 26-year-old Benjamin Polanco have been booked into the Kern County Jail for firearm and gang related charges.

Friday night, BPD officers responded to reports of shots fired from a vehicle in the area of Madison Street near S. Union Avenue. When they arrived they found several shell casings along the road.

After a short time, officers found Polanco driving the suspect vehicle in the area of Cottonwood Road near East White Lane and arrested him without incident.

Officers then received information that another suspect was in a home on Niclobar Court. When officers arrived at the home, they found Hinojosa inside and believed he was armed with a gun. BPD called for Hinojosa to come out but he refused to exit the home.

BPD SWAT was called out and neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, negotiators were able to speak with Hinojosa and he surrendered peacefully.

A firearm and several high capacity magazines were seized from the home.

There have been no reported injuries at this time.

Hinojosa and Polanco are both due in court on Tuesday.
