SHAFTER, Calif. — A fire in the attic of a historic train depot in Shafter caused $16,000 in damages Monday morning.
According to the Kern County Fire Department, crews responded just after 8 a.m. to reports of smoke coming from the depot's roof. When they arrived they found the source of the fire coming from the attic.
KCFD said the work involved in extinguishing an attic fire is "very labor intensive and time consuming." Firefighters worked to minimize any damage to the property while quickly and completely extinguishing the fire.
No inuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown.
