Just before 9:30 PM, the Kern County Fire Department was dispatched to a reported barn on fire.
The first engine on scene was faced with a hay stack on fire with winds carrying embers and threatening nearby exposures.
Firefighters were able to aggressively attack the fire limiting damage to the hay stack, a fence and portions of a horse corral.
Firefighters were challenged by the gusting winds and were able to quickly get water on the fire
protecting a nearby travel trailer and horse trailer that were threatened by the fire.
Loss as a result of the fire is estimated at $1,000, while approximately $25,000 was saved.
The cause of the fire is believed to be embers blowing from a burn barrel with fire in it that blew into the hay stack. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
