KCSO says there's a man scamming individuals by pretending to be from KCSD

On October 20th, 2016 the Kern County Sheriff’s Office became aware of a possible scam involving an individual misidentifying himself as an employee of the Sheriff’s Office.

Two citizens reported they were contacted via phone by a male caller who identified himself as an employee with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. In each instance the caller left voicemail messages. The caller advised each citizen to contact him at a phone number which he provided and referenced a case number in each call. Neither citizen contacted the caller, and each instead reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office does not have an employee by the name provided by the caller, and the phone number provided by the caller is not an active Sheriff’s Office phone number. In addition, the case numbers referenced by the caller in each voicemail message are not legitimate Sheriff’s Office case numbers.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the reports, and believes this is some type of scam. The Sheriff’s Office would like to advise citizens to never provide personal information to an unknown caller. If anyone receives a similar call, please report it to the Sheriff’s Office at 661-861-3110.
