RIDGECREST, Calif. — The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was fatally stabbed in Ridgecrest on Monday.

31-year-old Derrick Demetric White was found unresponsive in the 200 block of West Wilson Avenue. He was transported to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital where he later died, officials said.

According to Ridgecrest Police Department, dispatchers received multiple calls that White suffered stab wounds and was down in the middle of the road. Police arrested Steven Caldwell, who officials say was in an altercation with the White and eventually stabbed him. A warrant obtained by 23ABC says White was stabbed and cut in the neck area.

Caldwell was arrested and taken into custody. He now faces first-degree murder charges.
