BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — This year at the Kern County Fair you won’t just be waiting in line for your favorite deep-fried food. You may also be waiting in line to pass through security.

The Kern County Fair is increasing security by installing multiple metal detectors at all three entrances. Fair-goers will also still go through the wanding process before entry.

To avoid delays Kern County Fair officials, encourage fair-goers to arrive early and be prepared to go through metal detection.

“With the implementation of the metal detectors that are going to be at the fair, I expect delays for at least the first couple days. Until they get used to it and get a system that works for fair security and everybody,” said Commander Ian Chandler of the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

More than 425,000 people are expected to attend the fair and security urges everyone attending to leave all weapons at home.

The Kern County Fair runs from September 18 through September 29.
