Kern County Fire warns of hoarding dangers

Posted

The Kern County Fire Department is warning the community about the potential harms of hoarding, especially when it comes to fire safety.

According to the department's Facebook page, firefighters in Ridgecrest have reported that in the last three weeks, they have had structure fires at three "hoarder homes".

Hoarding can be a fire hazard, KCFD warned. Many occupants die in fires in these homes due to blocked exits or falling materials.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in Ridgecrest Monday where two people were trapped inside. Firefighters reported heavy fire in the living room and attic. No injuries were reported, but the house sustained major damage.
