KERN RIVER VALLEY, Calif. — The Kern River Conservancy is reminding visitors that parking along the side of the road is not allowed throughout the forest.

The KRC said illegal parking was so bad Sunday, a firetruck was unable to pass when heading down the Johnsondale Bridge, about 19 miles north of Kernville.

"Most people think they can park just about anywhere in the forest with the mentality that no one is going to cite or tow them because they are in the middle of a forest," the ground said in a Facebook post. "Wrong!"

The KRC warns drivers looking to get away for the weekend that they must use designated parking areas throughout the forest and along the river. Otherwise, they will be ticketed by law enforcement.

"Law Enforcement has been busy writing tickets to people parking illegally at the Johnsondale bridge," the post went on to say.
