BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Future soldiers are set to take the oath of enlistment this week with U.S. Army Col. and NASA astronaut Andrew Morgan as part of a nationwide ceremony.

Nearly a dozen local students who have committed to joining the Army after high school will raise their hands to take the oath Wednesday.

The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Agriculture Pavilion at the Kern County High School Regional Occupation Center on 3300 East Belle Terrace.

After taking the oath, Col. Morgan n will conduct a question-and-answer session of questions submitted by students from across the country and talk about his experiences in the Army and in his training leading up to his journey to space.

The youth who met the requirement and are selected to serve receive top-notch technical training and education in more than 150 career fields, with almost a third of those in STEM-related fields.
