COURT DOCS: Man killed over weekend was victim of 2016 stabbing

The Kern County Coroner's office has identified the victim of Saturday's fatal shooting in a gas station parking lot north of Zingo's Cafe as 56-year-old Ricardo Viera. 

Documents obtained by 23ABC show January 26, 2016, Viera was stabbed by then 40-year-old Jonathan Smith and 55-year-old Michael Blackwood. The two suspects were arrested on charges including assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang.

Court records show Smith pleaded no contest to assault on a person with force causing great bodily injury. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail. Blackwood was cleared of all charges. 

The 2016 fight happened on Calloway and Rosedale between men from the Hells Angels and the Mongols. 

Viera survived the January 2016 stabbing then was killed in the shooting May 5, 2018.
