Man recounts shooting in southwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Police are investigating a possible shooting in southwest Bakersfield that left two people injured.

Derrick Jenkins says he, his cousin, and her boyfriend were sitting in a car on Stine Road near Country Place Lane when another vehicle pulled up, shot at them, then drove off.

He says the vehicle was around the corner on Country Place Lane. His cousin was shot in the back, and her boyfriend in the leg twice. Both were taken to the hospital, but Jenkins says they will be okay. The red Chevy that they were sitting in showing bullet holes on the right side.

"It was a big shock man, I didn't know what to do. I panicked and ran to the backyard thinking I was going ot get hit too. Luckily I didn't get hit you know what I mean. But man it just sucked. I wish I would have got hit instead of my cousin but stuff is just like that you know I guess," he said.

The Bakersfield Police Department responded to the scene. Jenkins described the vehicle that fled as possibly being a black Dodge Charger.

He was unable to say how many people were inside the car, or why the shooting happened.
