BUTTONWILLOW, Calif. - A man accused of beating an infant nearly to death last year was in court on Wednesday for sentencing.
Richard Graham was arrested in July 2016 after a one-year-old child was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital in critical condition. The child was suffering from skull fractures and swelling of the brain.
Deputies were called to the hospital and spoke with the child's mother, who said she left the baby with Graham at the Super 8 Motel off Interstate 5 in Buttonwillow.
According to court documents, Graham is accused of grabbing and twisting the child's neck.
Graham was sentenced to one year in prison for assault on a child with great bodily injury.
