BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A man is in the hospital with major injuries after being struck by a vehicle in East Bakersfield Tuesday night.
The California Highway Patrol reported the victim was in the area of E. California Avenue, west of Chamberlain Avenue, when he was struck by a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. When officers arrived the victim was lying face down in the roadway and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
Officials said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was not impaired. The driver said he'd been driving eastbound on E. California Ave. at approximately 35 mph when the pedestrian ran directly in front of him.
The investigation is ongoing.
