Mailbox thefts have been popping up left and right in Bakersfield.
The United States Post Office recently shared that there has been a statewide uptick in mailbox thefts, which may be due to the holiday season. The Bakersfield Police Department shared tips on how to keep packages safe and theft low, but it seems as if thieves are still finding ways to take mail.
According to a resident in Northwest Bakersfield, a complex was hit the evening of December 13 and multiple letters and packages were taken from the grouped mailboxes. She shared that the complex is planning to put security measures in place to prevent thieves from taking things in the future.
Oildale residents also woke up to their mailboxes smashed open on December 14. A bank of grouped mailboxes were open and mail was flung along the front of the bank of mailboxes. It is unclear at this time what exactly was stolen.
