BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Coroner's Office, Bakersfield Fire and Bakersfield Police recovered a man's body that was found under a rockslide in Northeast Bakersfield.

According to BPD, officers were alerted Sunday evening to a rockslide off Alfred Harrell Highway near CALM Zoo. Hikers told officers they believe a man was trapped beneath the rubble.

Officers responded and located the body, but were unable to complete the recovery because it was too dark, BPD said. Teams returned Monday morning.

BPD said the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Kern County Coroner’s office, but the investigation is being handled as an accidental death at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to call BPD at (661) 327-7111.
