Man found dead inside marijuana shop on Niles Street identified

The Kern County coroner has identified Marques Troyvell Stokes as the man found unresponsive in a local marijuana dispensary.

Officials said the 35-year-old died at the scene.

The coroner said a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine Stokes' cause.

A man was found dead inside a marijuana dispensary in East Bakersfield on Sunday morning, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

KCSO says they were flagged down at 10:45 a.m. for a report of a man down at Superior Meds marijuana dispensary, located on the 2000 block of Niles Street.

"They subject was suffering from some obvious traumatic injuries and he was examined by medical staff and determined to be deceased," said Sergeant David Hubbard of KCSO.

Hubbard did not say how the man was injured. He said there appeared to be a crime, but he was unsure what kind.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident. There is no suspect information available, according to KCSO.
