Pacific Gas and Electric will be donating backpacks and school supplies to students in need today at Journey Church in south Bakersfield on Sunday.
The backpacks were purchased through a $1,000 grant and will be given away at the annual Journey church back to school event.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will feature a student-led service highlighting motivational and anti-bullying messages.
Free haircuts, face painting, carnival games and other festivities will also be featured.
The event is focused on Bakersfield elementary, middle school and high school students. It is the third year that PG&E has donated and volunteered at the event.
