BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Public Works department is closing Fairfax Road, at College Avenue, while crews work to fix a 12-foot sinkhole that opened Monday.

This repair work is expected to last through April 21.

Due to the extent of the work required to repair the sinkhole and related storm drain damage at the intersection.

The city is asking motorists to avoid the area if possible and use alternative routes during the repairs and construction.

Local access for residents remains open.
