BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — As we approach the one year anniversary of the 6.4 and 7.1 magnitude earthquakes, local Representative and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy released the following statement:

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Ridgecrest Earthquake, I am proud of the way our community has come together to overcome this great challenge. The overwhelming support we have received from Congress and the Trump Administration has been encouraging, including the allocation of $3 billion in funds to rebuild Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake to ensure the installation remains one of our country’s most advanced.

McCarthy also reminded residents of resources available to them in times of an emergency.

  • Have an earthquake preparedness kit you can take on the go, which should include things like antibiotic ointment, medication, and bandages.
  • If you have a car, it may also be in your best interest to have a few items like a first aid kit and bottled water.
  • For your home, tools like a screw driver, wrench, or shovel may come in handy.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide a robust list of additional items to make your own earthquake preparedness kit, here.
