The Richland School District's Superintendent Dr. Dago Garcia has resigned, according to the Board of Trustees' President Deanna Rodriguez.

In an email to 23ABC Rodriguez confirmed that Garcia emailed his resignation to the board on Wednesday stating that his resignation is effective as of June 30, 2019.

Garcia's resignation was first reported by the Shafter press.

Last year, Dr. Garcia returned to work after formerly being placed on paid leave following allegations against him.

School officials are reportedly gathering an official statement regarding Garcia's resignation that will be released soon.

Garcia was named superintendent in 2017.
