BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern High School District has confirmed that South High School's principal is in the "early stages" of discussing a potential mascot change.

According to KHSD officials, South High's principal is considering forming a committee to discuss the history of the school’s mascot and a possible mascot name change.

"We are looking forward to receiving the information that Principal Grumling and the committee will provide, and the district and board of trustees will evaluate the next steps moving forward," said the KHSD.

This is a developing story.
