Suspect involved in machete, torture case in court today for felony charges

UPDATE (08/08): Franco Ochoa, the man believed to be involved in the machete, torture case appeared in court on Tuesday.

Ochoa pleaded not guilty to felony charges of attempted murder, torture, aggravated mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and arson. 

Ochoa will be back in court on August 14.

UPDATE (08/07): The man involved in the machete, torture case is expected to be in court today Monday August 7th for a misdemeanor charge. Franco Ochoa is also expected to be in court tomorrow Tuesday August 8th for charges related to the machete, torture case.

One of the suspects tied to the assault and torture case of an east Bakersfield woman appeared in court on Thursday.

Amalia Lopez, 42, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, torture, aggravated mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and arson.

Lopez and her husband, Franco Ochoa, are accused of torturing a woman, assaulting her with a machete and lighting her home on fire on June 24.

The two were arrested on Sunday in Oxnard. 

Ochoa, 50 is being held in Oxnard on open charges and will be brought back to Kern County once that case is closed.

Lopez will be back in court August 14.
