TEHACHAPI, Calif. — The Kmart in Tehachapi is permanently closing its doors just in time for Christmas, according to a statement from its owner Transform Co.

Transfom Co. said that following a liquidation sale the store, which is located on 710 W Tehachapi Boulevard, is expected to close by mid December.

"After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart store in Tehachapi, California. The liquidation sale is expected to begin in mid-September and the store is planned to close by mid-December. We encourage customers to continue shopping on Kmart.com for all their product needs."

The announcement comes after a new Walmart in Tehachapi opened its doors in early August, reportedly creating hundreds of jobs for residents.

This is a developing story and we will update as more information comes in.
