DELANO, Calif. — Celebrations are planned throughout the day on September 16, commemorating and honoring the day that Mexico gained its independence.

Mariachi is a style of music originating from Mexico, that is composed of instruments such as violins, guitars and trumpets. A local music studio, The Mariachi Studio Music Academy in Delano highlights the roots of this sound at each rehearsal and performance.

Juan Morales, the director of The Mariachi Studio, said mariachi music plays an important role in Mexican culture.

"Mariachi is present in almost every celebration," said Morales.

The studio gives the students a fun and educational experience, and understanding their identity is what Morales hopes his students gain through the sound of mariachi.

"Helps them to get stronger and get more confident of who they are, their value and their self-esteem," said Morales.

The Mariachi Studio Music Academy is located at 1323 Main Street in Delano. For more information, you can contact the music studio at 203-1183.
