Two men sentenced to 50 years to life for fatal Union Ave. shooting

One man dead, BPD investigation as homicide

Two men were sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for a fatal shooting on Union Ave. back in 2017.

Guillermo Vasquez and Nicky Diaz Carrillo were both convicted of first-degree murder for the death of 30-year-old Francisco Ramon Amavisca in February 2017. Vasquez was sentenced to 53 years to life while Carrillo was sentenced to 50 years to life. Vasquez received credit for 585 days served while Carrillo received credit for 583 days served.

In February 2017, Francisco Ramon Amavisca was shot near 18th St. and Union Ave in downtown Bakersfield. He died at the scene from his injuries.
