Vegetation fire in Tehachapi closes Hwy. 202 from Banducci Rd. to Cummings Valley Rd.

TEHACHAPI, Calif. — A vegetation fire in Tehachapi has closed Highway 202, from Banducci Road to Cummings Valley Road, according to Caltrans.

According to KCFD, firefighters were able to keep the fire down to 36 acres.

Highway 202 reopened at 5:30 p.m.

The blaze sparked just before 3:30 p.m. near Tamaron Drive off Hwy. 202.

Southern Cal Edison shut off power briefly in the area as a safety precaution.

Power remained out for about an hour but has been restored.

Firefighters will remain on scene through the night to mop up hot spots.

The cause of this fire was determined to be caused by roadside mowing operations.

There were no injuries reported by civilians or firefighters.

One outbuilding was burned, no homes were affected.
