WASCO, Calif. — Five local teens will be recognized Tuesday at the Wasco City Hall meeting for their heroic actions in saving a teenage girl from drowning.

Summer time calls for time by the pool and endless fun. However, there are many dangers that come along with that. Last month a group of teens from the Wasco Sheriff's Activities League was spending a Saturday at the Wild Water Adventures swim park in Clovis when they noticed a girl fighting for her life in the water.

"I don't know if it was just like an instinct that I had or we had," explained Hailey Medrano. "We turned around and she was drowning."

"Hailey grabbed the girl, the girl then grabbed both of us together," added Jaime Fernandez.

The program coordinator, Deputy Patrick Basquez, says he's not surprised by the heroic actions of the teens and will be there when they are honored.

The event happens on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
